Botox
injections are extremely useful in erasing the appearance
of frown lines and wrinkles, but scientists have discovered
an entirely different use for the powerful toxin. The
injections are improving the quality of life for people
who suffer from abnormal sweating.
According
to MSNBC.com, researchers have discovered that Botox injections
are effective in treating hyperhidrosis, a condition characterized
by profuse sweating. In a study of 20% patients who sweated
an average of four cups over a period of eight hours,
the injections reduced sweat production to normal levels.
After two weeks, patients began to sweat more heavily,
but even after six weeks, sweating was reduced to its
original rate. The effect is only temporary and injections
will have to be repeated every three to six months.
