Scientists Convert Cow Skin Cell Into Heart Cell

In the wake of continuing debate about the ethics of using embryos for stem cell research, scientists are trying to find new ways to collect and use stem cells for their important studies.

The same researchers that cloned Dolly the sheep have announced that they turned a cow's skin cell into a heart cell.  According to MSNBC.com, the Scottish firm, PPL Therapeutics, turned the cow cells into basic stem cells, and from those stem cells, created heart cells.  The scientists believe that the same technique will be applicable in humans, circumventing the need for using embryos as a source of stem cells
