In
the wake of continuing debate about the ethics of using
embryos for stem cell research, scientists are trying
to find new ways to collect and use stem cells for their
important studies.
The
same researchers that cloned Dolly the sheep have announced
that they turned a cow's skin cell into a heart cell.
According to MSNBC.com, the Scottish firm, PPL Therapeutics,
turned the cow cells into basic stem cells, and from those
stem cells, created heart cells. The scientists believe
that the same technique will be applicable in humans,
circumventing the need for using embryos as a source of
stem cells
