Drug
shortages are becoming an increasing problem across the
U.S., and many are blaming pharmaceutical companies.
Due
to a shortage of tetanus shots, hospitals have begun rationing,
saving them for critically injured patients and burn victims.
According to CNN.com, the shortage has so far affected
only the adult version of the vaccine; children's shots
are still plentiful. Tetanus shots were already on the
verge of scarcity when one of the major manufacturers,
Wyeth-Ayerst, announced that they would no longer make
the vaccine. The sole remaining manufacturer has been
working night and day to produce the vaccine, but the
shortage is not expected to ease before the end of the
year
